Wolves Baseball Heads South for Season Opener

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team will open the 2021 season tomorrow at Mount Marty College in Yankton. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. versus the Lancers.

NORTHERN STATE STORYLINES
  • The Wolves were picked ninth in the poll, earning 78 points
  • NSU is coming off their interrupted spring 2020 season, where they held a 1-12 record through the first 13 non-conference games
  • Northern ended the year with an 11-7 victory over No. 6 St. Cloud State
  • NSU returns 28 from a season ago, including NSIC Preseason Player and Pitcher to Watch Spencer Sarringar and Seth Brewer
  • In addition, the Wolves welcome 12 newcomers to the roster, with a mixture of both freshman and junior college transfers
 
MOUNT MARTY STORYLINES
  • The Lancers enter the midweek with a 7-5 record overall, with wins over Presentation and Dickinson State
  • Mount Marty is hitting .354 as a team with 124 hits, 28 doubles, 19 homeruns, and one triple
  • They have scored 137 runs with 127 RBI and a .947 field percentage
  • The Lancer staff posts a 5.01 ERA through 79.0 innings pitched
  • Josh Roemen and Mason Townsend lead the starters hitting .487 and .444 on the year, notching a combined 30 runs scored, 25 RBI, and five homeruns
  • Dylan Nicholson and Tyler Preist lead the pitching staff with 2-1 records, with Nicholson notching a team low 3.60 ERA and team high 14 strikeouts
  • MMC is led by head coach Andy Bernatow in his seventh season at he helm
 
LOOKING BACK TO 2020
  • The Wolves and Lancers last faced off in 2016, with Northern notching a 16-13 victory in Tucson
  • Northern is 15-13 all-time versus Mount Marty
