Wolves Softball Falls Twice on Saturday

Joplin, Mo. – The Northern State University softball team was swept by Missouri Western State on Saturday morning from the TMZ Tournament. The Wolves conclude the weekend with a 3-3 record versus Missouri S&T, Missouri Southern, and Missouri Western.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Missouri Western opened the game with four runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on two in the second, one in the fourth, and one in the sixth
  • Northern was no-hit by the MWSU starter Sydney Rader in the game
  • Meghan Anderson suffered her second loss of the season giving up four earned runs on five hits
  • Andrea Cherney entered in relief throwing 4.1 innings and giving up four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wolves scored first with one run in the first, second, and third innings before the Griffons rallied back with three runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and five in the seventh
  • Kennady Thompson scored on a wild pitch in the first after reaching base on an infield single; Elyse Cuttic also doubled in the inning, advancing Thompson to third
  • Elly Smith tallied a 1-out double in the second and her pinch runner came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Shelby Novotny
  • Rachel Reinke took things into her own hands in the third, crushing her second homerun of the season to right field
  • Northern was held scoreless through the final four innings
  • Cuttic suffered the loss in the game, giving up six earned runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts

Northern State will face off against the University of Mary and Southwest Minnesota State on March 6 and 7 from the Presentation College Dome.
