Northern State Sweeps UMary from the PC Dome

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team swept the University of Mary on Saturday from the Presentation College Dome. The Wolves tallied 16 hits in the two wins, including six extra base hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Marauders were on the board first, notching two runs on a homerun in the top of the second
  • Elly Smith tied the game at 2-all in the fifth, belting the first homerun of her career to deep left field
  • Makenzie Merritt scored on Smith's long ball and gave the Wolves the lead in the following inning with a homerun of her own
  • Merritt's deep ball to left was her fifth of the season
  • Northern held UMary scoreless in the top of the seventh and sealed their seventh victory of the year
  • Chanel Siebenthal tallied the Wolves third extra base hit of the contest, a double to left in the bottom of the second
  • Meghan Anderson threw her fifth win of the season
  • The Wolves tallied four runs on sixth hits, without giving up an error on defense

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Marauders again took the first lead of the contest, notching one run in the third
  • The Wolves grabbed the lead in the top of the fifth scoring two runs off the bats of Shelby Novotny and Chanel Siebenthal
  • Novotny recorded her first dinger of the season, a homerun to left, and Siebenthal scored Rachel Reinke on a single to center
  • Northern tacked on two more runs apiece in both the sixth and seventh innings, sealing the victory
  • Novotny notched a double in the sixth, scoring Merritt, and Emma Terveer tallied a single down the left field line, scoring Novotny
  • Smith added to her stellar day, plating Jessi Hernandez and Siebenthal on a double to right center in the top of the seventh
  • NSU tallied six runs on ten hits, and was perfect defensively
  • Elyse Cuttic tossed her third win of the season for the Wolves
