Northern State Splits Day Two of the TMZ Tournament versus Host

Joplin, Mo. – The Northern State University softball fell in game one and came back with a win in game two versus TMZ host Missouri Southern. The Wolves tallied nine runs and 23 hits in the two games, as well as 16 strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Wolves put runs up on the board early, scoring three in the top of the first off the bats of Elyse Cuttic and Makenzie Merritt on a single to left and double to right
  • The Lions answered back in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own and the score stood at 3-2 through the completion of the second
  • Northern tacked on two more runs in the top of the third on a single by Emily Charchuk scoring Kennady Thompson and a stolen base mishap error by the MSSU catcher
  • Missouri Southern broken things open in the bottom of the frame, notching five runs on five hits
  • Thompson added an RBI in the top of the fourth, scoring Chanel Siebenthal on a single up the middle
  • The Lions added two more in the fourth and held the Wolves scoreless in the final three innings
  • Northern tallied six runs on 15 hits, leaving nine runners on base
  • Meghan Anderson suffered her first loss in the circle, giving up eight earned runs on ten hits with five strikeouts

  • Northern State scored their three runs of the game in the top of the second, led off by a Rachel Reinke double plating Shelby Novotny
  • Chanel Siebenthal followed that with a single up the middle scoring both Reinke and Jessi Hernandez
  • Missouri Southern answered back in the bottom of the frame notching one unearned run on an error by the Wolves catcher
  • NSU tallied eight total hits in the contest and gave up two errors on defense
  • Elyse Cuttic earned her second win of the year throwing a complete game with nine strikeouts
