Marshall, Minn. – The Northern State women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday afternoon. The Wolves defense led the way recording their third consecutive shutout, the longest such streak for the program since 2016.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northern State's first goal of the game came in the 23rd minute of play, as Megan Fastenau gained control of the deflection from the SMSU goalkeeper and fired a shot into the back left corner of the open net
- It took less than two minutes for the Wolves to tack on their second goal of the match, in the 24th minute a corner kick by Mia Zagorski led to a header bouncing into the net by Isabela Polanco Garcia
- The Mustangs best scoring opportunity came in the 29th minute on a shot by Jessica Jugovich, goalkeeper Alexus Townsend was able to stick her foot out just enough to deflect the ball and send it out of play
- Another key save by Alexus Townsend came in the 67th minute, when Jessica Jugovich had a brief open look at the bottom left corner of the net before Townsend stepped in front of the shot attempt
- Southwest was able to control the attack throughout the match and out-shot Northern 12-9 and 7-5 in shots-on-goal
- NSU held the advantage in corner kick attempts 5-1
