1/29/2021 9:15:00 AM

Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 10 ranked Northern State women's track and field team and the No. 19 ranked men's team host their first and only home meet of the 2021 indoor season against in-state rival Augustana. Field events will kick off at 1 p.m. with running events set to start at 3:30 from the Barnett Center. A live stream of both the throwing and running/field events will be available throughout the day; links to access are listed above.

Northern track and field comes off their best overall performance of the season at South Dakota State's Jim Emmerich Invite against Division I competition last weekend. The men's team recorded 27 season best marks across all events while the women's side notched 28 season best marks.

Both the men's and women's programs enter the week nationally ranked in the USTFCCCA Indoor Track and Field Rating Index. The women are ranked second out of NSIC teams behind No. 9 Augustana, and the men are the highest-ranked team in the conference ahead of No. 22 Wayne State, No. 23 MSU Moorhead and No. 24 Minnesota State-Mankato.

The Wolves have eight athletes ranked in the top-20 nationally for the respective events, led by Tanner Berg, who has automatically qualified for the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the weight throw with the top mark in the nation (21.80m). Berg also ranks 15th in the country for the shot put.

The women's team has four athletes ranked top-6 in the nation, led by junior high jumper Tava Berg (4th – 1.73m) and pole vaulter Jordyn Huneke (5th – 3.95m) who have both provisionally qualified for the national meet. Dakota Hutzler ranks 6th in the country in the long jump (5.65m) with a provisional mark, and Shanice Burrell ranks 4th in the 60m hurdles (8.82).

Wolves track and field entered the 2021 indoor season with high expectations, and this weekend will be another test for the up-and-coming program as they go head-to-head against one of the established powerhouses in the conference.
