Northern State Swimming Ready for Dual Against Sioux Falls

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State swim team gets ready for another road trip as they head to Sioux Falls to take on the Cougars of USF. The first race is set to start at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. 
 
 
ABOUT THE WOLVES
  • Northern State heads to Sioux Falls 1-12 overall and 1-2 on the road
  • NSU saw USF at the beginning of their season from the AUGIE/UMary/USF/NSU quad that was held in Bismarck N.D.
  • The Wolves were strong in the pool despite the score against USF recording 35 top-10 finishes in the season-opening meet with two-lifetime bests from Annalise Bishop and Melani Mercer
  • Coming off their training trip to Florida, NSU placed second overall with 210 points
  • Hannah Kiernan and Delaney Ryken got things started for the Wolves last weekend in the 400 free, Kiernan placed eighth with a time of 5:1.88 and Ryken rounded out the top-10 with a time of 5:04.97
  • Connor Doran is hitting her stroke at the right time as she took second last weekend in the 100 free only by .32 second
  • Marialuisa Avila is also coming off a close race with the difference between Avila and first place was .56 seconds
 
ABOUT THE SIOUX FALLS COUGARS
  • Sioux Falls enters the weekend 7-0 overall and 4-0 in their home pool this season
  • The Cougars swam in the Augustana Invitational meet last weekend placing third overall with 1,092 points finishing only behind student-athletes from SDSU
  • USF had 21 NCAA "B" cuts over the three-day invitational
  • Ella Johnson for the Cougars had a strong 200 fly last weekend with the second-fastest time in NCAA DII with 1:59.73, fast enough for a USF school record and NCAA "B" cut
  • USF is led by two-year head coach Chris Hamstra
 
 LAST MEETING
  • Northern State was unable to get it done against USF last time they met in the pool this season
  • The Wolves had two-lifetime bests last time they met up with USF from Bishop and Mercer
  • Northern State is 0-3 all-time against Sioux Falls
