Aberdeen, S.D. – Nine straight semesters. For the ninth semester in a row, the Northern State University student-athletes have recorded above a 3.30 semester GPA coming in at 3.31 in the spring of 2019. In addition, the department concluded the academic year with a 3.32 cumulative grade point average.
"Our student-athletes continue to excel at the highest levels in the classroom, it is truly amazing to see this continued high level of academic achievement each semester," noted
Josh Moon, Director of Athletics. "To have our two NSIC Championship teams; volleyball and men's basketball, leading their respective genders in GPA also says a lot about the culture of these programs. We continually emphasize to recruits and teams that our best students are the most successful in competition, and this continues to be true."
The Northern State volleyball team led the way with a program high 3.81 semester mark, while finishing the academic year with a 3.75 cumulative GPA. The women's cross country and softball teams followed with 3.49 semester GPAs, while women's and men's basketball were the final teams above a 3.4 coming in at 3.45 and 3.42 respectively.
Women's track and field recorded a 3.39, followed closely by men's cross country and women's swimming with 3.38 marks each. Soccer and football tallied 3.35 and 3.15 GPAs respectively, while men's track and field and wrestling rounded out the pack with a 3.14 mark.
The Wolves student-athletes also saw great individual success with 33 student-athletes recording a 4.0 semester GPA. Likewise, 19 of those individuals continue to hold a cumulative GPA of 4.0.
