Wolves drop two 1-run games to Minnesota State

Aberdeen, S.D.  – With mirroring game scores, the Northern State University softball team dropped two games to Minnesota State University Mankato on Friday. The Wolves remain 12th in the NSIC league standings behind Southwest Minnesota State and UMary in tenth and 11th.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rachel Reinke led off the game with a walk and came around to score the following at-bat, on Courtney Sjerven's single to left field; those would be the Wolves only two runs of the contest
  • Minnesota State notched one run in both the second and third innings, tying the game at 2-all
  • Three scoreless innings ensued before the Mavericks notched a game winning hit in the bottom of the seventh
  • Northern tallied two runs on four hits with one error defensively
  • Jamie Fisher suffered the loss throwing 6.2 innings and giving up two earned runs  on 11 hits with one strikeout and three walks

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Minnesota State opened game two with one run in each of the first three innings
  • Northern however answered back in the top of the fourth with a single up the middle by Kaitlyn King, scoring Julia Sullwold and Emma Terveer
  • The Wolves were unable to tie the game up notching two runs on five hits with one error
  • Makenzie Merritt suffered the loss giving up three earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks
