Aberdeen, S.D. – Two 5-4 games, led to an NSIC mid-week split for the Northern State University softball team. Despite a late inning come back the Wolves dropped the opener, however quickly bounced back, handing Duluth just their third conference loss of the season.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Minnesota Duluth struck first in the top of the second with two runs, and added their final three in the top of the fifth
- Northern began to chip away in the fourth as Sara Bendt singled in Anne Jonas, who pinch ran for Jen Martin (reached on a fielder's choice)
- Cassidy Schaar led off the fifth with a pinch hit single to center field, and came around to score on an error by the UMD pitcher
- Kennady Thompson plated Rachel Reinke in the inning as well on a single to center field; Reinke had reached base on a 5-pitch at-bat resulting in a single to right
- The Wolves threatened in the bottom of the seventh down by two with runners on first and second
- Jen Martin scored Courtney Sjerven (walk) on a ground ball to second base, but that would be the only run of the inning for NSU
- Northern tallied four runs on seven hits with two errors defensively
- Andrea Cherney tallied her ninth loss of the season throwing 4.2 innings with six hits, three earned runs, and six strikeouts
- Makenzie Merritt entered in relief and held the Bulldogs at bay throwing the final 2.1 innings with one hit and four strikeouts

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Madison Rutter kicked off game two for the Wolves in the bottom of the second with a solo homerun to deep left center
- Duluth responded with a homerun of their own in the top of the third, however the Wolves broke things open in the bottom of the frame
- Courtney Sjerven led off the third with a double to center field, and came around to score the first run of the inning on a bases loaded walk by Jamie Fisher
- Kaitlyn King stepped to the plate with runners on first and second and blasted a long ball to left field; scoring on the play were Anne Jonas (running for Jen Martin who was hit by a pitch) and Fisher
- The Bulldogs rallied back in the fifth, cutting the Northern State lead to just one, however spectacular defense and clutching pitching in the sixth and seventh sealed the victory for the Wolves
- Northern tallied five runs on seven hits with just one error defensively
- Jamie Fisher started in the circle, throwing her fourth win of the year
- Makenzie Merritt earned her first save of the 2019 campaign and the first of her career
