Brookings, S.D. – The Northern State track and field teams opened the first day of the SDSU Indoor Classic with 11 personal bests, two season bests, and 15 top-20 finishes.
Emma Rezac,
Isabel Kinzer, and
Madison Barnes grabbed the first personal bests of the meet for the Wolves in the 200m dash. They ran to times of 25.92 (Rezac), 26.19 (Barnes), and 26.80 (Kinzer), with Rezac leading the way in 19
th overall.
Mackenzie Cruzen added a season best mark in the 600m run with a time of 1:43.11.
The 1000m run also brought out three personal bests for the Wolves from
Abberly Smith (3:13.63),
Sarah Schafer (3:18.79), and
Kylie Werner (3:22.58).
Megan Mooberry added a personal best of her own in the 3000m run, crossing the line at 10:58.78.
The women's distance medley relay team of Schafer, Cruzen,
Jennifer Clark, and
Paige Larson ran to a season best mark of 13:04.02. They placed fifth overall to open the meet for the Wolves.
Sonia Alaman recorded the first top-10 finish for Northern in the high jump, with a 1.57m mark.
Jordan Menken led the throwers in the weight throw, taking 13
th overall with a 13.00m toss.
Trey Tiefenthaler and
Zech Culbreath opened the individual track events for the Wolves with personal bests in the 60 dash. Tiefenthaler crossed the line in 7.18, while Culbreath finished in 7.42.
Itoitz Rodriguez hit the track in his longest event, notching a season best time of 1:22.10 in the 600m run. He finished in tenth overall for the Wolves, and was followed by
Kelson Brewer who rounded out the top-20 with a season best of 1:24.89.
Riccardo Done finished 12
th overall in the 3000m run, finishing in a personal best time of 8:43.34.
Bryce Malsam and
Jacob Lackas advanced to tomorrow's semifinal race in the 60m hurdles, with times of 8.45 and 8.50.
The men's distance medley relay team also recorded a season best mark, as well as a top-5 finish. The squad of Done,
Devin Sheridan,
Donovan Miller, and
Jorge Garcia took fourth with a time of 10:29.32.
Brewer and
TJ Hochstetler led the way for the Wolves pole vaulters in a 5-way tie for eight place, after a 4.35m jump. Malsam and
Jacob Wiedrich also finished in the top-15, clearing 4.20m and 4.05m respectively. Hochstetler went on to finish 15
th in the long jump, with a 6.55m mark.
Chaka Kelly suited up for his first meet on the track team, and took 12
th in the shot put. The senior threw 12.06m.
Austin Eppard posted a strong showing in the weight throw, with a 14.38m toss in seventh overall.
Northern returns to the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. for running events and 11 a.m. for field events.
