Northern State Wins a Thriller Over the Bemidji State Beavers

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State men's basketball team (5-3, 1-1 NSIC) took down the Bemidji State Beavers (3-3, 0-2 NSIC), 81-73 in a thriller on Friday night.

The Wolves set the tone early, opening up the game with 13 unanswered points to take a convincing lead early in the first half, and the Wolves didn't look back.

Northern's offense was led by Gabe King, who was untouchable as he went perfect for the Wolves in the first half, going 100.0% from the floor, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, to lead the team to a 40-34 halftime lead.

NSU showed no signs of slowing down to start the second half, going on two large scoring runs to open up their biggest lead of the game.

Bemidji State didn't go down without a fight, however. After a rash of 3-pointers from the Beavers, the Wolves found themselves up by just 2-points with 30 seconds left in the game.

However, it was Parker Fox who sealed the win with his signature slam-dunk just four seconds before the buzzer, hyping up the crowd and bringing the final score to 81-73 in favor of the Wolves.

Northern finished the game shooting 52.9% from the floor, 50.0% from the beyond the arc and 63.3% from the foul line, a big bounce-back after the Wolves tallied just a 23.8 field goal percentage from the 3-point line in last week's loss to MSUM.

Northern scored 16 points off of turnovers, 32 points from the paint and 15 off the bench. The Wolves biggest lead was 18 points with 10:28 left in the second half.

At the top of the scoreboard for the Wolves was Parker Fox with 22 points and eight rebounds, closely followed by Gabe King with a season high 20 points and three assists. Cole Dahl led the team from the bench, going 3-of-4 from the field for ten points.

Tommy Chatman, Mason Stark and Andrew Kallman each scored eight points for the Wolves, with Kallman also notching a career high seven assists. Rounding out the scoresheet was Jordan Belka, with five points and two rebounds off the bench.

The Wolves will be back on the court to face Minnesota Crookston on December 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from Wachs Arena.
