Jamestown, N.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team opened the season from the Jamestown Jimmie Open, bringing home four weight class championships, as well as 14 top-8 finishes. The Wolves finished sixth as a team from the meet with 283.5 team points.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- The Wolves racked up seven major decisions, four technical falls, and 31 victories by fall as a unit
- Landen Fischer placed third at 125 pounds going 3-1 on the day with wins over Karsen Mosbrucker (UMary – 15-0), Logan Sloan (Saskatchewan – fall 1:04), and Dean Arevalo (Minot – forfeit)
- Dayne Morton won the 133 pound bracket going 4-0 with victories over Brandon Carroll (AU – 8-2), Willliam Horton-Hayden (Minot – 12-2), Cole West (AU – 8-0), and Jack Huffman (AU – fall 5:00)
- Creighton Baughman finished third at 141 pounds with a 4-1 record on the day, notching wins over Tayt Wolding (UMary – 11-2), Paul Noah (fall 5:36), Jones (NSU – 7-3), and Turnquist (NSU – 9-7)
- Wyatt Turnquist took fourth at 141 pounds with a 2-2 record, recording wins over Marcos Osorio (WSC – fall 0:49) and Roth (NSU – 13-10)
- Kenny Jones took seventh at 141 pounds going 3-2 from the meet, with wins over Jesus Murillo (UJ – SV-1 10-8), Andre Smith (Saskatchewan – fall 2:03), and Rodriguez (NSU – SV-1 6-4)
- Nathan Rodriguez took eighth at 141 pounds battling back after an opening round loss with wins over Nick Coria (York – fall 1:04) and Tyson Leon (UJ – fall 0:32)
- Garret Thompson advanced to the championship bout at 149 pounds, taking second with victories over Shadi Mitwalli (Minot – fall 1:39), Devin Steidler (UMary – 10-9), and Stoebner (NSU – 6-3)
- Adam DeBoer took third at 149 pounds with a 3-1 record, notching wins over Prestin Vondra (Midland – injury), Jacob Morgan (UMary – fall 0:49), and Stoebner (NSU – 3-2)
- Tyson Stoebner finished fourth at 149 pounds with a 2-2 record, recording wins over Anthony Velazquez (UMary – 12-5) and Tristian Snover (Midland – fall 2:14)
- Caden Moore placed fifth at 149 pounds with a 4-1 record on the day with wins over Remington Tschetter (Saskatchewan – fall 0:43), Shadi Mitwalli (Minot – 10-7), Anthony Velazquez (UMary – fall 2:46), and Tristan Snover (Midland – fall 2:24)
- James Burks won the 157 pound class with four victories over Maxwell Meekins (Saskatchewan – fall 2:35), Braydon Huber (UMary – 10-7), Zachary Berry (Minot – 9-1), and Max Bruss (UMary – 13-4)
- Kelby O'Reilly took sixth at 165 pounds going 3-2 with victories over Fernando Servin (York – fall 1:27), Marcus Urban (DWU – fall 2:19), and Raul Chavarry (NCTC – fall 1:47)
- Jake Flakus took third at 174 pounds with three wins over Thomas Scheett (NCTC – fall 2:15), Thomas Ingraham (UJ – fall 1:30), and Wiese (NSU – 7-6)
- Tanner Wiese added a fourth place finish at 174 pounds with two victories over Theodore Robison (UJ – 13-4) and Micah Heide (Saskatchewan – fall 1:46)
- Cole Huss took fifth at 174 pounds with a 4-1 record, notching wins over Lennorise Echols (York – 4-2), Theodore Robison (UJ – 2-1), Marcio Fallah (Minot – 14-1), and Joseph Lopez (Minot – 15-0)
- Marcus Placide opened his career with the Wolves winning the 184 pound class with victories over Gabe Anderson (UMary – fall 3:24), Brady Gross (ICC – 16-1), Carson Lee (Saskatchewan – 18-3), and Keegan Berry (Minot – 4-3)
- Josh Trumble took fourth at 184 pounds with a 2-0 decision win over Grant Litke of the University of Mary
- Diego Gallegos tallied the final weight championships for the Wolves, taking 197 pounds with wins over Doug Lazo (York – fall 2:06), Kolby Carson (Minot – fall 2:36), Matt Kaylor (UMary – 6-2), and Je-Mario Jones (Minot – fall 1:53)
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Freshman Fischer, Dane Christopherson, Turnquist, Stoebner, O'Reilly, Huss, Trumble, and Orlando Molina recorded the first collegiate victories of their Northern State careers
