Maryville, Mo. – The Northern State University baseball team Northwest Missouri State Friday, 6-0 and 12-3. With the sweep, the Wolves win the series and improve to 9-11 on the season.
In game one, NSU scored first on a Lorenz single that scored
Jack Schmidt. In the second inning the Wolves tallied four runs on a
Ben Carolin single plating
Kolin Kubitz who reached on a single,
Mikey Adams scored on an error, and
Jack Schmidt hit a two-run home run that scored Carolin, to take a 5-0 lead. Northern State notched one more run in the fourth inning on a
Dakota Stilson single scoring Carolin who had walked. Northern State tallied six runs on 11 hits, with one error on defense.
Schmidt and Lorenz each notched three hits in the game, adding two and one run batted in respectively. Carolin tallied one hit, two runs scored, and one run batted in, while Stilson notched one hit in three plate appearances with one run batted in.
Justin Barreneche and
Hayden Houts each went 1-for-3 in game one for the Wolves.
Kolin Kubitz notched a hit and scored a run.
Luke Chevalier pitched his second complete game shutout, in as many games going 7.0 innings, giving up six hits, one walk, and recording five strikeouts.
NSU struck first again in game two, as Lorenz recorded a sacrifice fly that scored Carolin who had doubled. Barreneche then singled, scoring Schmidt who walked. NSU added to their lead in the second as Schmidt hit a two-run home run that scored Carolin, and extended the lead to 4-0.
Northwest Missouri State answered with two runs in the third and one in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3.
Dakota Stilson notched a solo home run in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-3. The Wolves added runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth inning to pick up the 12-3 win. NSU combined for 12 runs, on 21 hits, and notched one error.
Barreneche almost went perfect at the plate going 5-for-6, knocking in one run, and scoring one run. Stilson also tallied a multi-hit game with four hits in six plate appearances scoring once and knocking in three. Schmidt went 3-for-5 at the plate, notching three runs scored and four RBI.
Carolin tallied two hits in four plate appearances, with two runs scored. Kubitz and Jeff Disla notched two hits in five plate appearances scoring one run each.
Hayden Hall also tallied two hits with two runs batted in.
Colten Landreth started the game for the Wolves going 4.0 innings, giving up three runs, on four hits, walking two, and striking out four in his first win of the season.
Holt Hunziker threw 5.0 innings of relief giving up no runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out three batters.
The Wolves are scheduled to open their home schedule on Wednesday at Fossum Field against Bemidji State. First pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 1 p.m. against the Beavers.
