Maryville, Mo. – The Northern State University baseball team dropped the opening game of the series to Northwest Missouri State 9-2. With the loss, the Wolves drop to 7-11 on the season.
NSU opened the scoring in the first inning with a single from
Lucas Lorenz that scored
Jack Schmidt. The Bearcats answer with two runs in the first and second inning to take a 4-1 lead through two. Schmidt tallied a solo home run in the third inning to cut the lead to 4-2. Northwest Missouri State added runs in the third, fourth, and seventh to pick up the 9-2 win over Northern State.
Schmidt lead the Wolves with two hits in four plate appearances, scored twice, and added one run batted in. Lorenz tallied one hit in three at-bats and notched the second run batted in.
Patrick Leary recorded one hit on the day for NSU, while
Ben Carolin notched a triple in the eighth inning but was stranded on third. Northern State finished the game with two runs, five hits, and one error.
Sam Krapf started the game for the Wolves dropping to 0-4 on the season, going 4.0 innings, giving up eight runs, on seven hits, walked five, and struck out four.
Nate Zeise entered the game in relief and threw 4.0 innings giving up one run, on two hits, and tallied one walk.
Northern State is back in action Friday against Northwest Missouri State. First pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 12 p.m. against the Bearcats.
