Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team will conclude the NSIC regular season this Friday and Saturday on the road at Minnesota Duluth. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday as they Wolves hunt for a conference tournament berth.
The Wolves currently sit ninth in the league standings with a 15-19 record and 22-24 record overall. They are one game back on the eighth place Golden Eagles who swept Minnesota Duluth a weekend ago.
Lucas Lorenz is leading the team hitting .344 with 52 hits, 42 runs scored, 13 doubles, 13 homeruns, and 50 RBI.
Jack Schmidt follows close behind with a .325 average after a stellar week versus Minnesota Crookston and Winona State where he was named the NSIC Player of the Week. Schmidt led the NSU offense hitting .579 on the week with 11 hits, including four homeruns. The junior slugged 1.211 with 12 RBI. As a team the Wolves are hitting .285 with 393 hits, 265 runs scored, 74 doubles, 11 triples, 30 homeruns, and 239 RBI.
Luke Chevalier and
Nick Hoffard lead the team with six wins this season and 1.56 and 3.70 ERAs respectively. Chevalier notched ten strikeouts last week, giving him the single season school record with a team leading 68 thus far. He is also third in the league in ERA this season. The pair will look to record their seventh wins of the season this weekend, which would tie the single season school record. The Northern State staff holds a 4.73 ERA through 353.2 innings with 246 strikeouts and a .279 opponent batting average.
