Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team clinched a spot in the NSIC Tournament with a split of Upper Iowa. The Wolves concluded NSIC play with a record of 14-15-1, heading into the tournament 29-24-1 overall. Northern will face the University of Sioux Falls from Sherman Park on Thursday.
As a team, Northern State is currently batting .290 with a slugging percentage of .405. The Wolves have combined for 26 homeruns, a single season record of 76 team doubles and 232 RBIs for an average of 4.56 runs scored each game.
Sophomore
Jenna Helgeson continues to propel the NSU offense with an average of .361, with a team-high eight homeruns and 36 runs batted in. Freshmen
Kennady Thompson and
Shayla Steinley have followed up with averages of .316 and .315 respectively.
From the mound,
Jamie Fisher and
Missy Elkins each recorded a win last week, as well as
Rachel Albright with a save versus Upper Iowa. Albright leads the team with an ERA of 2.27, while Fisher has held opponents to an average of .271.
Missy Elkins has a team high 13 wins and 82 total strikeouts on the year.
First pitch on Thursday from Sioux Falls, S.D. will begin at 10 a.m. versus the Cougars.
