Wolves Return Home for SCSU Double-Header

Aberdeen, S.D. – After going 1-2-1 in their first NSIC road games, the Northern State University softball team will continue action from home tomorrow against the St. Cloud State Huskies. The Wolves are currently 18-11-1 overall and 3-2-1 in league play.

The NSU offense exploded for 14 runs in their first two games of the weekend, combining for 26 team hits versus the Golden Eagles. The double-header resulted in a 9-5 win for the Wolves and a 5-5 draw. The Wolves struggled offensively in their Sunday double-header, falling to Bemidji State 9-1 and 8-0 in five innings.

As a team, Northern State is hitting .319 through 30 games with 41 doubles and 20 homeruns. Jenna Helgeson continues to propel the offense with a team-high .381 batting average, as well as 26 hits and 13 walks for the Wolves. Freshman Kennady Thompson leads the team with seven doubles, followed by Katie Dawson with 26 runs batted in.

Jamie Fisher continues to lead the NSU pitching staff with an ERA of 2.70 and 47 strikeouts, while senior Missy Elkins has earned eight wins with just 20 walks in 83.0 innings from the mound.

Northern State will begin action against the Huskies at 2 p.m. from the Moccasin Creek Softball Complex, with game two scheduled for 4 p.m.
