Wolves Close Out Home Stretch Against UMD

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team will continue action from the Moccasin Creek Complex this Tuesday, taking on Minnesota Duluth for their third-straight double header at home. The Wolves are coming off a 2-6 week, sweeping Wayne State on Sunday to improve their overall record to 24-17-1 and 9-8-1 in the NSIC.

On the weekend, Northern dropped a pair of close games to the Vikings, however went on to defeat the Wildcats 9-8 in game one and 10-2 in game two.

Last week, the Wolves went 50-for-161 from the plate for an average of .311, while combining for nine doubles, one triple, three homeruns and 25 RBIs as a team. Kennady Thompson led NSU, going 8-for-18 for an average of .444. Lauren Kunz followed up with an average of .429, a double, a homerun and six RBIs.

Sophomore Jenna Helgeson also tacked on six RBIs, connecting for two doubles, a triple and two homeruns. Helgeson continues to lead the team with seven homeruns and an average of .372 through 42 games.

Rachel Albright and Missy Elkins improved their overall records on the year, each picking up wins from the mound.

First pitch against Minnesota Duluth will take place on Tuesday, April 18th at 2 p.m., followed by game two which is scheduled for 4 p.m.
