Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team will open the 2017 home schedule tomorrow from Fossum Field. The Wolves will face off against St. Cloud State in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
The Wolves enter the week with an 8-8 record overall and a 1-3 mark in the NSIC after a weekend series with Upper Iowa University. A total of seven Wolves are hitting above .300 this season led by
Zach Beatty and
Ben Allen with .444 and .388 averages.
Lucas Lorenz leads the team with 20 hits, eight doubles, four homeruns, and 26 RBI. The junior is currently slugging .793 this season and ranks second in slugging percentage and third in the NSIC in homeruns. The Wolves are hitting .301 as a team this season with 149 hits, 27 doubles, eight triples, seven homeruns, and 97 RBI.
Thomas Sertic leads the Northern State pitching staff with three wins this season, followed by
Luke Chevalier with two. Sertic holds a 1.80 ERA, with Chevalier close behind at a 2.28. The pair also lead the team in strikeouts with 29 by Chevalier and 12 by Sertic in 2017. As a staff the Wolves hold a 5.43 ERA in 122.2 innings of work. They also hold an opponent batting average of .293.
