Aberdeen, S.D. – After beginning the season 15-9, the Northern State University softball team starts Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play tomorrow against MSU Moorhead. The Wolves have competed in the Presentation College Dome Invite, the NTC Games and the Hy-Vee Classic early in the 2017 season.
As a team, NSU is hitting .309 from the plate with 30 doubles and 20 homeruns. The Wolves have knocked in 125 runs with an average of 5.4 runs per game. They have proven to be speedy from the base paths, going 19-for-22 in stolen bases attempts.
Jenna Helgeson leads the team with a batting average of .382 and a team-high 11 extra base hits. Junior
Katie Dawson is slugging .680 on the year with five homeruns and 22 RBIs.
From the mound,
Jamie Fisher and
Missy Elkins have each collected two shutout with six total wins. In 11 appearances, Fisher has recorded 38 strikeouts while holding opponents to a batting average of .252. Senior
Rachel Albright is also 3-0 from the mound, maintaining an ERA of 1.78.
The first double header of the conference season will take place at 2 and 4 p.m. from the Moccasin Creek Softball Complex versus the Dragons of MSU Moorhead.
