Moorhead, Minn. – The Northern State University wrestling team fell to Concordia Moorhead on Friday evening, despite winning five of the last six weights wrestled. The Wolves drop to 1-3 in duals this season following the loss.
Kenny Jones took the lead for the Wolves in the 133 pound match, defeating Cole Kubesh in a 16-2 major decision. NSU then dropped two major decision matches, trailing 11-4 in the dual.
Billy Holtan got things back on track for the Wolves defeating Patrick Griffin in a 10-2 decision.
Blake Perryman and
Paxton Mewes made it three straight with two decision victories of their own. Perryman defeated Joe Heinz, 6-3, while Mewes downed Jake Johnson, 3-2 which gave Northern the 14-11 lead.
A loss at 184 pounds forced a 14-14 tie with just two weights remaining. Northern trailed 20-14 heading into the 285 pound match needing a victory by fall to tie the dual at 20-all. Diego Gallegos came away with the win, but wasn't able to force the pin. Gallegos defeated Kody Van Den Eykel in an 8-6 sudden victory match.
The Wolves return to the mat next weekend from the Midwest Classic hosted by U-Indy on December 16 and 17, from Indianapolis.
