Wolves Baseball Strengthens for 2016-17 with 11 Additions

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State University Head Coach Dean Berry announced Monday the addition of 11 student-athletes to the 2016-17 Wolves baseball squad. Kyle Beardsley (Elk Grove, Calif.), Rylan Shimer (West Valley, Utah), Sam Krapf (Twin Falls, Idaho), Carter Paulson (Rochester, Minn.), Chase Tunstall (Moses Lake, Wash.), Noah Vreeman (Willmar, Minn.), Seth Sullwold (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Louis Carlos (Delano, Calif.), Mike Severson (Livingston, Mont.), Matt Poirier (Surrey, British Columbia), Jordan Malainey (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) will join the Wolves this fall alongside November additions Mike Stubbs, Lucas Heiser, and Kollin Hanson.
 
10169 Kyle Beardsley // Elk Grove, Calif. // Franklin HS
Kyle Beardsley is a 5-foot-10, pitcher out of Franklin High School. As a senior for the Franklin Wildcats, Beardsley threw 22.1 innings with a 4.39 ERA. Franklin was also the 2011-12 City Champions. He is the son of Wes and Jennifer Beardsley.

Rylan Shimer // West Valley, Utah // Taylorsville HS // Dawson CC
Rylan Shimer is a 6-foot-4, right handed pitcher out of Taylorsville High School and Dawson Community College. As a prep for the Taylorsville Warriors, Shimer was a 2-year letter winner and starter. He notched a 2-1 record with a 2.33 ERA and three saves in his senior season, while also being named All-Region Honorable Mention. At Dawson, he tallied 109.1 innings of work in two seasons with an 11-4 record and 106 strikeouts. Shimer posted a 2.09 ERA a season ago with seven wins on the year. He is a 2-time MonDak All-Conference honoree, the 2016 MonDak Most Valuable Pitcher, All-Region 13 honoree, and Division 2 North Plains All-District. He is the son of Kimberly LeBaron.

Sam Krapf // Twin Falls, Idaho // Kimberly HS // Big Bend CC
Sam Krapf is a 6-foot-4, right handed pitcher out of Kimberly High School and Big Bend Community College. Krapf was a starter and senior team captain for the Kimberly Bulldogs where he posted a 7-1 record with 56.2 innings pitched, 72 strikeouts, and a 2.98 ERA. He spent the past two seasons at Big Bend where he tallied 91 innings of work. Krapf posted a 7-2 record with 58 strikeouts and two saves. He is a 3-time member of the Big Ben dean's list, and was honored with the team leadership award and Society of the Red V award. He is the son of Donna Krapf and Joel Bate.
 
10172 Carter Paulson // Rochester, Minn. // Rochester Mayo HS
Carter Paulson is a 6-foot-1, middle infielder out of Rochester Mayo High School. He is a 2-year starter for the Spartans under head coach Tom Senne. As a senior, Paulson recorded a .318 season average and aided the Spartans to a 12-11 season record. Paulson is also a member of the Rochester Mayo Academic Honor Roll. He is the son of Don and Sherri Paulson. 

 
10173 Chase Tunstall // Moses Lake, Wash. // Moses Lake HS // Big Bend CC
Chase Tunstall is a 6-foot, pitcher out of Moses Lake High School and Big Bend Community College. He was a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Moses Lake Chiefs. In his senior campaign, Tunstall posted a 1.95 ERA and was named to the Columbia Basin Big Nine All-Conference Second Team. As Big Bend, Tunstall tallied season ERA's of 5.15 and 4.21 as one of the starters on staff. He is the son of Keith Tunstall.

Noah Vreeman // Willmar, Minn. // Wilmar Senior High
Noah Vreeman is a 6-foot-3, catcher out of Wilmar Senior High. He is a 3-year starter and senior team captain for the Cardinals under head coach Tom DeBoer. Currently, Vreeman holds a .425 average with nine doubles and one triple in his senior season. He was named the 2014 Rookie of the Year and a 2016 CLC Performer of the Week. Vreeman is a 2-time All-Conference Honorable Mention honoree and All-Area Team Honorable Mention honoree. He is also a member of the Wilmar Senior High hockey team. Vreeman earned All-Academic each year in both baseball and hockey. He is the son of Joel and Sherri Vreeman.
 
10175 Seth Sullwold // Brooklyn Park, Minn. // Totino Grace HS // Iowa Lakes CC
Seth Sullwold is a 6-foot-3, third baseman out of Totino Grace High School and Iowa Lakes Community College. He was a 2-year starter in high school for the Eagles, earning All-Conference as a senior. Sullwold went on to become a 2-year starter at Iowa Lakes, where he earned All-Regional Honorable Mention a season ago. In his two years he tallied a .323 average with ten homeruns, 26 doubles, three triples, and 63 RBI. He is the son of Mike and Michelle Sullwold.
 
10176 Louis Carlos // Delano, Calif. // San Luis Obispo HS // Monterey Peninsula College
Louis Carlos is a 5-foot-11, right handed pitcher out of San Luis Obispo High School and Monterey Peninsula College. As a prep, Carlos was a 2-year starter for the Tigers. He posted an 8-2 record with a 1.42 ERA and three complete games. As a senior, Carlos was named to the First Team All-Pac 7. He was then a starter at Monterey Peninsula where he earned the Lobo Award. He is the son of Louis and Patricia Carlos.

Mike Severson // Livingston, Mont. // Park HS // Dawson CC
Mike Severson is a 6-foot, catcher and first baseman out of Park High School and Dawson Community College. He was a 4-year starter for the Rangers of Park High School. Severson then moved on to Dawson where he was both a starter and team captain. He is a 2-time MonDak All-Conference performer and was named to the 2016 All-region 13 Team. Severson was a member of the MonDak Championship team this past season at Dawson. He notched a season average of .406 in 2016 with 48 hits, 52 runs scored, 17 doubles, two triples, ten homeruns, and 53 RBI. He is the son of Eric Severson and Michele Webb.
 
10178 Matt Poirier // Surrey, British Columbia // Clayton Heights Secondary
Matt Poirier is a 6-foot, right handed pitcher and outfielder out of Clayton Heights Secondary. He is a starter for the Horse club and also plays volleyball and basketball at Clayton Heights. Poirier also played two seasons with the North Delta Blue Jays Club in Delta, British Columbia. He is the son of Kathryn and Steven Poirier.

 
10179 Jordan Malainey // Saskatoon, Saskatchewan // Vauxhall HS
Jordan Malainey is a 5-foot-11, outfielder out of Vauxhall High School. He is a 4-year starter for the Jets under head coach Les McTavish. As a senior, Malainey posted a .386 season average with four homeruns and 15 stolen bases. He also tallied a .494 on base percentage. Malainey was named the 2015 Canada Cup Top Hitter and was a member of the 2015 Best of the West Championship team. He is a 2-time principles honor roll recipient. He is the son of Cory Malainey and Karrie Rambridge.
