Baseball Signs Three in Early Signing Period

Aberdeen, S.D. - NSU Head Coach Dean Berry announces the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent. Mike Stubbs (Rochester, Minn.), Kollin Hanson (Faribault, Minn.), and Lucas Heiser (Aberdeen, S.D.) will join the Wolves in 2016-17.

Mike Stubbs // Rochester, Minn. // Mayo HS
Stubbs is a 6-0, right handed pitcher from Rochester Mayo High School. Mike is a two year starter for the Spartans as a sophomore and junior. In 2014, Stubbs went 2-2 as a starter with a 4.88 ERA in the Minnesota Big 9 Conference. He is the brother of current NSU baseball student-athlete Matt Stubbs.

Kollin Hanson // Faribault, Minn. // Bethlehem Academy
Hanson is a 6-3, first basemen from Bethlehem Academy. Kollin is a four year starter and two year team captain for the Cardinals. In three seasons he has tallied 19 doubles, 13 homeruns, and 58 runs batted in.  As a junior, Hanson hit .400 with a .584 slugging percentage and .430 on base percentage. Kollin has also spent time on the mound with 60 strikeouts and a 1.40 ERA a season ago. He earned All-Conference and was named the Section Player of the Year in 2015. Kollin also participates in football and basketball for the Cardinals.

Lucas Heiser // Aberdeen, S.D. // Central HS
Heiser is a 6-0, pitcher out of Aberdeen. He is a three year starter for the Golden Eagles. In 2015 Lucas went a perfect 5-0 in the ESD and earned All-Region Pitcher and Position Player of the Year. He was also named to the 2015 All-State squad as both a pitcher and position player. Lucas recorded a 0.74 ERA in 19 innings of work with 19 strikeouts. He held his opponents to a .333 average with only four doubles. Heiser went 4-4 in his summer league with a 3.26 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 62.3 innings of work.
 
 
"I am very excited about these three young men," said Berry. "We believe we have found some quality student athletes in this early signing period.  Mike and Lucas are going to help us on the mound sooner rather than later.  They both are fierce competitors when they get on the mound.  Kolin is a big strong switch hitting first baseman who has power from both sides of the plate.  These guys are going to represent Northern State University very well both on the field and off."
