Wolves Open NSIC Tournament Tomorrow vs. Vikings

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team earned the seventh seed in the NSIC Tournament beginning tomorrow in St. Cloud and will face the second seeded Vikings of Augustana. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. between the two teams from the Municipal Activities Complex and Faber Field.
 
The Wolves enter the tournament with a 21-22 record overall and 14-16 record in NSIC action, after a 4-2 week versus the University of Mary and Minnesota Crookston. The Wolves were hot on offense combining for 88 hits, 79 runs scored, 76 RBI, 25 doubles, four triples, and 11 homeruns. They also tailed two run rule victories over the Golden Eagles to seal their bid into the tournament. Jack Schmidt is leading the team with a .470 average this season, and a team leading 78 hits, 17 doubles, and 44 RBI. Schmidt notched his 72nd hit of the season on Friday, breaking the single season hit record which was set a season ago. Northern tallies six hitters above the .300 mark this season with a .329 average as a team. The Wolves have recorded 477 hits, 337 runs scored, 99 doubles, 15 triples, 47 homeruns, and 299 RBI.
 
Nick Hoffard and Colton Boucher lead the NSU starters with 7-3 and 5-5 records this season. Hoffard has put together five straight victories for the Wolves, with big wins over Minnesota State, No. 2 St. Cloud State, and Minnesota Crookston. He led the league this season with a 1.33 ERA and his currently second on the team with a 3.58 season mark. Boucher sits atop the team with 56 strikeouts this season and has thrown a team leading 66.2 innings. Luke Chevalier has come on strong off the bench and has a team leading 3.57 ERA with three saves in 2016. Dillon Lee has been successful for the Wolves in a variety of roles, making 13 appearances, four starters, and tallying three saves.

- The Vikings concluded the regular season with a 35-15 record overall and 26-8 record in league play
- Augustana enters the NSIC Tournament after a 3-3 record in the final week of the regular season falling to both the University of Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State
- Patrick O'Donnell and Tyler Field led the AU offense hitting .495 and .411 this season. O'Donnell leads the team with 99 hits, 60 runs scored, three triples, and 11 homeruns.
