Wolves Face Mavericks and Huskies in NSIC Action this Week

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team is set for a trio of NSIC doubleheaders. The Wolves will open the week tomorrow at home versus Minnesota State. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. from Fossum Field. Northern will then travel to face No. 2 St. Cloud State in a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Start times are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.
 
The Wolves enter the 6-game series with a 14-17 record overall and 7-11 in league action. Northern currently sits ninth in the NSIC standings with two weeks remaining in regular season action. NSU went 3-1 a weekend ago versus Minot State and will face Minnesota State, No. 2 St. Cloud State, U-Mary, and Minnesota Crookston to close out the regular season. Jack Schmidt and Matt Stubbs are currently leading five Wolves hitting above .300 this season with .463 and .402 averages respectively. Schmidt has tallied a team leading 57 hits, 37 runs scored, 46 RBI, and 12 doubles. Lucas Lorenz sits atop the team with ten homeruns this season, followed by Stubbs with eight on the year. The Wolves are hitting .322 as a team with 337 hits, 235 runs scored, 61 doubles, 11 triples, 35 homeruns, and 205 RBI.
 
Colton Boucher and Nick Hoffard lead the Wolves on the hill with 4-3 and 3-3 records this season. Boucher has thrown 47.1 innings for NSU with a team leading 45 strikeouts, while Hoffard enters the week with 39.0 innings of work and 12 strikeouts. Luke Chevalier leads the Wolves relievers with a 3.06 ERA and one win in eight appearances. The NSU staff holds a 7.37 season ERA with 17 different Wolves making an appearance in 2016.
