Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University swim team recorded a victory in their midweek dual against Augustana University, outscoring the Vikings 146-116. The Wolves saw nine first place finishes, three personal records and 32 season bests in the 14 event meet this evening from Sioux Falls.
Northern State began competition strong, as the relay team consisting of
Edda Skoric,
Kady Harris,
Hannah Kastigar and
Kayla Sproles swam to a first place finish in the 400 yard medley relay. The foursome completed the race in 4:04.30.
The Wolves followed with two additional back-to-back first place finishes, with
Hannah Kastigar beating out competitors in the 1000 yard free by a time of 10:33.28 and
Edda Skoric hitting the wall for a final time of 1:59.10 in the 200 yard free.
Kady Harris continued NSU's success, nabbing first place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.66.
Hannah Kastigar record the second of her three individual first place finishes in the 200 yard butterfly, completing the race in 2:04.84. Kastigar's final swim, the 400 IM, also resulted in a first place finish for the Wolves. The junior hit the wall at 4:28.10
Kayla Sproles added two first place finishes of her own in the 50 yard free and the 100 yard free, completing the races in 25.66 and 55.73 respectively.
As a team, the Wolves picked up three additional second place finishes, coming from
Edda Skoric in the 200 yard backstroke,
Eliza Jacob in the 200 yard breaststroke and
Kalina Emaus in the 500 yard free.
The Wolves wrapped up the meet with a victory in the 800 yard free, as
Edda Skoric,
Cassandra Maillet,
Josie Gillund and
Kayla Sproles recorded an 8:12.92 finish to seal the second win of the season as a unit.
NSU will continue to make a splash this Friday in their final home meet of the 2016-17 season against Minnesota Morris and U-Mary. Action between the three teams will begin at 5:30 p.m. from the Aberdeen YMCA.
