Wolves Nab Seven First Place Finishes From MSUM Dual

Moorhead, Minn. – The Northern State University swim team was defeated in tonight's MSU Moorhead Dual by a score of 113-149. After falling to the Dragons in the NMU Quad, the Wolves closed the gap and saw improved race times as 52 of NSU's 61 swims were season bests.

Northern State recorded seven total first place finishes in the meet, led by junior Hannah Kastigar with three individual victories. Kastigar finished the 100 yard butterfly in 56.57, the 100 yard free in 53.02 and the 200 yard IM in 2:04.60. The junior surpassed her own school record in the 100 yard butterfly and nabbed an additional NSU record in the 200 IM, beating out the 2012 time of 2:10.06. Kastigar also recorded pool records in each of her three individual events.

Sophomore Kalina Emaus found success for the Wolves in the 1650 yard free, tallying a first place finish with a time of 18:44.02. Emaus also picked up third place in the 100 yard butterfly and the 500 yard free. Following Emaus' first place finish in the 1650 yard free, Jamie Fuse notched a win of her own in the 50 yard back with a time of 29.52.

NSU's Edda Skoric tallied two top-2 finishes on the night in individual races. The freshman completed the 200 free in 2:00.66 for a second place finish and hit the wall at 1:01.06 in the 100 yard backstroke to gain first place. Fellow freshman Kady Harris recorded top finishes as well for the Wolves, coming in the 50 yard breaststroke and the 100 yard backstroke. Harris finished the 50 yard breaststroke in 33.29 and the 100 yard backstroke in 103.20, nabbing second in each event. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Eliza Jacob was among one of Northern State's only top finishers with a time of 1:12.99.

Junior Kayla Sproles excelled in both the 50 and 100 yard free, with first and third place finishes respectively. Sproles beat out competitors in the 50 yard free with a time of 25.27, while finishing the 100 yard free in 54.72.

Northern State wrapped up the night in the 400 free relay with a second place finish. The relay team consisting of Kayla Sproles, Edda Skoric, Cassandra Maillet and Hannah Kastigar completed the final race in 3:39.97, recording a season best time in the event.

The Wolves will be back in action on Thursday, November 3rd as they host their second home meet of the 2016-17 season against the University of Sioux Falls Cougars.
