Box Score 2 Mankato, Minn. – The Northern State University baseball team was swept by No. 3 Minnesota State in Northern Sun Conference play. The Wolves drop to 19-19 overall and 13-13 in NSIC games, with a four game home stand against Minnesota Crookston up ahead.
Game One The Wolves started the game with a combined five runs in the first and second innings of play. Northern however was unable to fend off the powerful MSU offense who busted out 19 hits and 20 runs in seven innings of play.
Shawn Powers suffered the loss for the NSU giving up 12 hits and nine earned runs. Chiquel Davis led the Wolves on the mound with three strikeouts in two innings of work.

Tyler Gripentrog,
Lucas Lorenz,
Jack Schmidt, and
Clayton Nutting each tallied two hits in the game. Lorenz led the team with three RBI after going yard in the top of the second. Nutting and O'Bryan scored on the bomb by the freshmen third basemen.
Riley Shintaffer and
Buddy Traxler each tallied a hit apiece in the loss.
Clayton Nutting notched the teams only other multiple base hit with a double to left in the second. Northern tallied 12 hits and four earned runs in the game, with all earned runs coming off the undefeated Rodning of Minnesota State.
NSU ultimately fell in the game with a score of 7-20.
Game Two After going down 0-1 in the fourth, the Wolves fought back with three runs in the seventh to capture the lead.
Alex Cornwell led off the inning with a single to the second basemen. After a big game one,
Lucas Lorenz stepped to the plate and blasted his second homerun of the day.
Mark Abrahamson was the final run of the inning, as he reach base by virtue of a hit by pitch. Abrahamson came around to score three at-bats later, with a
Buddy Traxler groundout to the shortstop.
The lead did not last long, as the Mavericks answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Starter
Phil Sauer gave up three runs to open the seventh and was relieved by
Marcus Manderbach. Manderbach threw 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings for the Wolves, however the NSU offense was unable to mount a comeback.
Northern returns home tomorrow for a match-up with Presentation College. Although the game beginning at 5:30 p.m., will be played in Aberdeen, the Wolves will be the visiting squad. NSU is then back in action from Fossum this weekend for a four game series with Minnesota Crookston.
