The NSU takes on Southwest Minnesota State University at Fossum Field this weekend with games on Friday and Saturday. Both days will start around 4 p.m, due to other scheduled college games being played earlier in the day. Both teams met earlier this year in a non- conference in Tucson, Arizona. Wolves (9-12, 3-7 NSIC)
The Wolves got back on track Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Bemidji State. Northern won by scores of 4-3 and 10-2. Freshman
Lucas Lorenz led the Wolves going 5-10 in the doubleheader Tuesday.
James Georgakas got his 3rd win of the season while
Marcus Manderbach, in his first NSU start, got his first victory.
Lucas Lorenz leads the team in hitting at .377, followed by
Tyler Gripentrog (.329) and
Riley Shintaffer (.322). Eric O' Bryan leads the team in hits (26) and
Mark Abrahamson in RBIs(17). On the Mound, the Wolves are led by lefthander
James Georgakas with a record of 3-0 and an ERA of 3.26.
Mustangs (10-12, 3-3 NSIC)
The Mustangs split Tuesday with Winona State on the road. SMSU lost game one 10-8, followed by a 10-7 victory in game two. In game two, Senior Patrick Rients went 3-5, with 3 runs, 2 RBIs and his 5th Homerun of the season.
Austin Stubbs (.405), Jared Carlson (.347), Brian Redemske (.346) and Patrick Rients (.333) lead the Mustangs in hitting. Stubbs is among the league leaders with his 6 homers and 21 RBIs. Carlson and Rients each have 5 homers on the year. On the mound, Mitch Wurm is 2-1, with 28 innings pitched with 21 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.50.
