Box Score 2 Mankato, Minn. – The Northern State University softball team spilt with Minnesota State, to move to 21-16 overall and 8-6 in the NSIC. The Wolves picked up a 3-0 win in game one, before falling 0-8 in five innings in game two.
Game One The Wolves scored their three runs of the game in the top of the second, led off by
Rachel Albright with a walk.
Macey Engel then singled through the right side, advancing Albright to second.
Mackenzie Thielen entered the game for Engel, giving Northern some speed on the base paths.
Brittney Lash continued her solid week at the plate with a double to right, scoring Albright on the play. Just two hitters later,
Michaela Liebl connected for the Wolves second double of the inning to right center, scoring both runners on base.
Senior
Kami Smesmo threw a complete game shutout versus the Mavericks, giving up seven hits while striking out six. The win marks Kami's 14
th of the season.
Game Two Northern was no hit in game two versus MSU starter Coley Ries.
Brittney Lash and
Katelynn Dilts were the two Wolves to reach base in the loss, by virtue of the walk.
The Wolves were unable to stop the Maverick offense who combined for ten hits and eight runs in five innings of play.
Missy Elkins suffered the loss giving up five earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. The sophomore struck out two in the game.
NSU will continue NSIC play tomorrow from Concordia-St. Paul. Game times are set for 12 and 2 p.m. between the Wolves and Golden Bears.
