Box Score Box ScoreThe Northern State University Baseball won their first game of the season 6-2 against the University of Mary (1-10). This game was considered a non-conference game, however it counted towards the overall record and regional record.
U Mary got on the board first in the top of the 3rd with two runs off of NSU starter
Colton Boucher. Boucher hit the leadoff hitter and walked another to setup the runs. The Wolves got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as
Matt Stubbs led the inning off with double to right center.
Riley Shintaffer followed with a RBI single, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Bocuher kept the score at 2-1 throught the front half of the sixth inning. Boucher's line for the game was 6 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. The Wolves went ahead for good in the bottom of the sixth. Shintaffer doubled to left center, then pinch hitter
Jordan Goracke hit an RBI single to tie the game.
Buddy Traxler then doubled in Goracke to put the Wolves up 3-2.
James Georgakas relieved Boucher for the seventh and eighth inning. In the bottom of the eighth, Stubbs led off with a single. Shintaffer followed up with a bunt single and a throwing error allowed Stubbs to score from first, making the score 4-2.
Mark Abrahamson then hit a pinch hit triple, scoring Shintaffer, adding to the lead.
Riley Ayers then bunted in pinch runner
Jeff Rideout to make the score 6-2.
Phil Sauer relieved Georgakas and got two out in the top of the ninth, before giving way to
Marcus Manderbach for the final out with the bases loaded. Boucher recieves the win and Manderbach got a one out save.
The Wolves continue action tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1pm Central/12pm Mountain. Wolves will face Malone University(4-3). Announced startimg pitchers are
John Eckstein and
