Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University softball team will play a pair of non-conference doubleheaders, March 2 & 3 from the Rosemount Irish Dome, before heading to the NTC Games in Clermont, Florida. The Wolves are 1-1 after a two game spilt with Minnesota Duluth a week ago.
Katelynn Dilts is leading Northern offensively with a .500 average in two games played, while
Kalie Maiden leads the team with two hits and one run scored.
Kelsey Gale holds the team's lone base hit, with her first home run of the season versus Minnesota Duluth.
Missy Elkins was named the NSU Qdoba Athlete of the Week for her efforts versus the Bulldogs, tallying her first win of 2015. Elkins notched three strikeouts in her first career shutout.
The Wolves will match-up with Northeastern State tomorrow at 9 and 11 a.m. from Rosemount. NSU was slated to play, the Riverhawks in the cancelled Missouri Southern Tournament. Northeastern in 8-4 on the year, and currently on an eight game win streak. Jessica Boone leads the Riverhawks, hitting .450 on the year with seven doubles and six RBI. Kayce Wooldridge is at the top of the NSU pitching staff with a 4-1 record, making appearances in seven of the team's eight games on the year. Northeastern is hitting .355 on the year as a team, while holding their opponents to a .286 average.
Northern will then take on Drury University, Tuesday at 8 and 10 a.m. from the dome. The Panthers are 2-2 on the year, with their last win coming against Oklahoma Panhandle State. Drury fell to Northeastern State in their 2015 season opener. Marissa Ross leads DU with a .455 average in four games played, tallying five hits in 11 at bats. Panther ace, Shelby Weissenbach has notched both of the team's two wins, garnering an ERA of 1.17, and an opponent average of .182. Drury is hitting .206 on the year, while their opponents are slightly above at .239.
