Kelly's Career High Three Touchdowns Leads Wolves in 55-21 Victory

Crookston, Minn. – The streak continues for the Northern State University football team, with a 55-21 victory over Minnesota Crookston in NSIC North Division action. The Wolves improve to 3-4 overall and 3-0 in the division, while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-7 on the year.
 
The Wolves scored early and often recording two touchdowns in each of the four quarters. Chaka Kelly led the NSU scoring attack with three rushing touchdowns in the win. Kelly tallied 90 yards rushing, with a 6.4 yard per carry average. The redshirt freshman was one of three Wolves with 90 or more yards rushing. Stephen Erlandson led the NSU rushing attack with 99 yards. He added two touchdowns and averaged 6.6 yards per carry. Quarterback Christian McAlvain was second on the team with 93 yards and a touchdown of his own. McAlvain's 36 yard rushing score early in the fourth quarter was his longest of the day. Cameron Pudwill added his first touchdown of 2015 on a two yard rush, for the Wolves third score of the game. Pudwill also recorded two tackles on defense.
 
Tight end Conner Doherty added a receiving touchdown as well mid-way through the third to put the Wolves up 35-7. Tyrell Anderson led the NSU receivers with 42 yards, while Zech Culbreath tallied the team's long of the day a 25 yard toss from redshirt freshman quarterback Kyle Lavand. Lavand recorded 98 yards passing and 44 yards rushing in the victory.
 
The NSU defense kept the Golden Eagles on their toes with four broken up passes, three sacks, and two interceptions. Channing Barber led the team with two break-ups in the win, and added a team second best six tackles. Joe Parsley and Alex Bernstein teamed for the squads two interceptions. Parsley recorded a 32 yard return, while Bernstein notched a five yard return. Taylor Zemlicka, Chad Stoterau, and Tyson Zemlicka each recorded a sack for a combined 15 yard loss. Matt Thorson led the team with seven total tackles, while a total of 21 Wolves recorded multiple in the game.
 
It was a different look for the Wolves in special teams' returns as Tyrell Anderson and Joe Parsley led the NSU returns. Anderson tallied a 64 yard kickoff return, while Parsley notched a 55 yard punt return. Devin Olson and Blaine Schmidt each recorded two returns as well for 15 and six yards respectively. Adrian Krupka recorded four punts and nine kickoffs in the win. The senior averaged 38.2 yards per punt and 59.0 yards per kickoff. Krupka was also 7-for-7 in point after attempts.
 
As a unit the Wolves tallied 352 yards rushing to Crookston's 239 and 17 rushing first downs. The Golden Eagles notched 278 yards passing however were unable to connect in the end zone. NSU converted well on third downs, going 8-of-12 and was 6-of-7 in the red zone.
 
Northern will return home next weekend to face the University of Mary at 2:30 p.m. from Swisher Field.
