Wolves Shutout Marauders, Improve to 4-0 in NSIC North

Aberdeen, S.D. – It was all NSU in Saturday NSIC action, as the Northern State University football team defeated U-Mary 37-0. The win marks the fourth straight for the Wolves in North Division action as they improve to 4-4 on the year. The Marauders drop to 0-7 heading into the final three weeks of regular season football action.
 
Adrian Krupka opened the scoring for the Wolves on their first drive of the game with his first of three made field goals. Krupka's 22 yard attempt was straight through the up-rights and his shortest in the game, as he recorded a 24 and 27 yard attempt in the second quarter. Krupka was also 4-for-4 in PAT.
 
Tyrell Anderson added to the team's total late in the first on an 11 yard pass from Kyle Lavand. The Wolves tallied three touchdowns in the second half of play off the feet of Nicholas Truen, Cameron Pudwill, and Chaka Kelly. Truen and Kelly also led the team with 64 and 47 yards rushing.
 
Kyle Lavand threw for 233 yards in the win, with 13 completions in 25 attempts and no interceptions. Lavand added 42 yards rushing for a game total of 275 yards of total offense. Zachery Barber tallied his second 100 plus yard game of 2015 with 108 yards receiving. Barber also tallied the team long of 38 yards. Tight ends Conner Doherty and Cody Kraft were second and third on the team with 50 and 42 yards receiving respectively.
 
The NSU defense was solid in the win, holding the Marauders scoreless and recording four tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and eight pass break-ups. Taylor Zemlicka did it all for the Wolves with a team leading ten tackles. Zemlicka recorded eight solo tackles and added one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and an interception. He was followed by Tyson Zemlicka with eight solo tackles and two pass break-ups.
 
Alex Bernstein recorded his second straight game with an interception, while Matt Thorson nabbed the team's final pick for a 34 yard return. Channing Barber threw his hands in the mix with a team leading three break-ups. The junior added three tackles and a tackle for a loss with Blake Lohr.
 
The NSU special team's receivers saw little action in the game with only one U-Mary kickoff and two returnable punts. Blaine Schmidt recorded the Wolves to punt return for a total of 38 yards, while Zech Culbreath pulled down Northern's kick return for 17 yards. Adrian Krupka averaged 44.4 yards per punt, a season high mark for the senior, and 53.0 yards per kick-off. Krupka tallied 437 total yards kicking in the win. Jacob Wiedrich entered for three kickoffs for NSU, averaging 51.0 yards per kick.
 
The Wolves will remain at home next weekend for the annual Shriners Game versus Minnesota Duluth. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on the 31st from Swisher Field.
