The 21
st-ranked Northern State volleyball team lost a hard-fought, five-set match to No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul Friday night in St. Paul. The loss snaps the Wolves' five-match winning streak.
NSU (8-2, 1-1 NSIC) came out strong in the match, winning the first set 25-17 and after CU (8-2, 1-1 NSIC) responded with a win in the second (25-23), Northern was on the verge of victory after taking the third set 25-20. However, the seven-time defending National Champions rebounded with a 25-15 win in set four and took the decisive fifth set 15-11.
The Wolves hit .286 and .364 as a team in their two set wins while Concordia hit .310, .361 and .533 in its three set victories. For the match, Northern hit .233 as a team and the Golden Bears hit .255.
Northern was led by
Kelsey Chambers who tied a career-high with 23 kills in the match. Chambers also hit a team-best .444.
Mandy Kurosky added 12 kills and a career-high 17 digs while
Tori Biach had 11 kills, hit .321 and had a team-high four blocking assists.
Drew Smith notched her fifth double-double of the season as she recorded 54 assists and had 11 digs.
Annika van Oosbree added 12 digs and three assists in the loss.
NSU had just one ace (Kurosky) in the match and four serving errors while the Golden Bears recorded five aces and eight service errors. CU had four players with double-digit kills.
The Wolves return to action Saturday as they travel to face Minnesota State in a 4 p.m. match.
