The Northern State baseball team's historic season came to an end Wednesday at the NSIC Tournament as the Wolves lost to St. Cloud State 6-0 in the opener and 5-3 to Southwest Minnesota State in the elimination game. NSU finishes the season with a 28-19 record, tying the program record for the most wins in a season.

The Northern bats were held mostly silent in the game with the Huskies as the Wolves managed just four hits in the loss. The Wolves kept the game within striking distance for much of the way, trailing just 2-0 heading into the seventh. SCSU opened things up though with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to extend its lead.

Alex Cornwell, Robbie Rocamora, Maurice Rodriguez and Nate Russell collected the hits in the loss for the Wolves. Colton Boucher got the start and the loss for NSU. Boucher pitched seven solid innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking-out six batters. Northern also committed three errors in the game.

The Wolves' offense was more potent in game two against the Mustangs thanks to a pair of solo home runs from Rocamora. Rocamora got Northern in the lead first with a bomb to right field in the second inning and his second homer came in the ninth, also to right. Rocamora finishes the season with 10 long balls. Rocamora finished the game going 3-for-4.

A three-run fourth inning and a two-run home run from Patrick Rients in the fifth propelled SMSU to the win. Rients' homer proved to be the game-winner as it was his school-record 19th of the season.

Cody Johns was tabbed with the loss against Southwest for the Wolves as he pitched 5.1 innings. Johns allowed five runs off seven hits in the game while walking one and striking-out three. James Georgakas and Andrew Crisman pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Wolves.

This trip to the NSIC Tournament was the first for Northern since the 1997 season.
