Box Score The Northern State baseball team stepped away from NSIC action Wednesday as the Wolves and cross-town rival Presentation squared off at Fossum Field for a nine inning contest. NSU won its sixth game in a row with its 12-5 win over PC. It was Northern's first true home game of the season.
Matt Stubbs continued his hot streak as he got NSU (15-10) on the board first with a two-run home run to left center in the first inning. Stubbs went 2-for-4 in the game with three RBI. PC responded in a big way, however, as the Saints (7-30) took a 5-2 lead after scoring two runs in the second and three runs in the fourth inning.
A Stubbs RBI double cut the Presentation lead to 5-3 in the fifth and the Northern bats came alive the rest of the game.
Robbie Rocamora's three-run bomb to center field gave NSU a 6-5 lead, which it wouldn't relinquish again. Rocamora went 3-for-5 on the day with three runs scored and four RBI in the victory.
Northern added three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth on a
Buddy Traxler single that scored Rocamora and
Danny Fischer. Traxler was 2-for-5 at the dish with three RBI.
Clayton Nutting had a pair of RBI in the win as well.
James Georgakas picked up his second win on the season. Georgakas made his second-straight relief appearance count as he went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs on just two hits. Georgakas also walked just two batters and struck-out five while moving his record to 2-0 on the year.
Northern returns to conference action Thursday as Upper Iowa comes to Fossum for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
