Live StatsThe Northern State baseball team will play its 2014 "home" opening series this week as the Wolves travel to Redfield to play a four-game set with Minnesota, Crookston. Games were moved from Fossum Field in Aberdeen due to field conditions. Doubleheaders will be played Sunday and Monday. First pitch Sunday is set for 1 p.m. while game one Monday begins at noon.
The Wolves are 10-10 overall and 4-6 in NSIC play and are coming off a split with Sioux Falls Wednesday in a midweek doubleheader with the Cougars.
Cody Vandever led a strong NSU pitching performance against USF as he pitched eight innings and allowed five hits and one unearned run while recording seven strikeouts in the Wolves' 2-1 win.
Clayton Nutting went 2-for-4 with an RBI and the game-winning run in the victory.
Dillon Lee picked up his second save of the season in the game.
Derek Tymesen is one of five Northern players with a .300 average or better. Tymesen leads the Wolves hitting .378 this season.
Matt Stubbs is third on the squad batting .328 and leads Northern with 19 runs and 11 RBI. Stubbs and
Eric O' Bryan are the only two Wolves to start all 20 games this season.
Cody Johns leads the NSU pitching staff with a 2.51 ERA on the year. Johns,
Colton Boucher,
John Eckstein and Vandever are all 2-2 on the season. Lee's two saves leads the team while Boucher and
Kris Keating also have a save for Northern on the year.
The Golden Eagles enter the series with a 1-19 record and are 0-8 in conference play. UMC is led by Ryan Haggstrom who is hitting .368 this season. Haggstrom also leads Crookston with 10 RBI on the season. Jesse Jennings has the lone home run on the year for UMC. Cayden Barta leads the Golden Eagle pitching staff with a 1.69 ERA in five appearances and also has a save.
The series with UMC begins the first of 15 consecutive home games for Northern. The Wolves will play all 17 of their home contests in the month of April.
