The Northern State baseball team got back to its winning ways Tuesday as the Wolves swept Winona State in NSIC doubleheader action. NSU won in two different ways on the day as it took game one 1-0 and game two 11-2.

Game one was a quick pitcher's duel as Trevor Sporrer's RBI double in the second inning proved to be the deciding factor as he brought in Alex Cornwell for the game-winning run. Colton Boucher pitched a gem on the mound for the Wolves (21-14, 14-10 NSIC) as he recorded his sixth complete game of the year and won his fifth consecutive start to move to 6-2 on the season. Boucher scattered seven hits over the seven innings and also struck-out seven Warriors. Clayton Nutting collected two of Northern's four hits in the win.

Game two went much differently on offense for Northern as the Wolves collected 13 hits in the game and also capitalized on five Winona State errors in the field. Cornwell, Nutting, Robbie Rocamora, Maurice Rodriguez and Sporrer all collected two hits in the win for the Wolves. Eric O' Bryan, Nutting and Buddy Traxler all scored two runs in the game.

Matt Stubbs got the Wolves on the board first in the third inning with a two RBI double that brought in O'Bryan and Nutting. Rodriguez followed that up with an RBI later in the inning to make the score 3-0. After Winona scored in the fourth, NSU responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to go back up 7-1. Cornwell, Nutting and Rocamora all tallied RBIs in the inning.

The Warriors got their second run of the game on a solo home run from Lucas Crimmins in the fifth but the Wolves again responded with a four-run inning, this time in the seventh as Winona recorded three errors in the inning to help the Wolves' cause.

Cody Johns got the start in game two for Northern and pitched another complete game on the day for the Wolves. Johns allowed two runs on eight hits while getting three strikeouts and had no walks as he improved to 4-2 on the season.

The Wolves return to action this weekend as they will play a four-game series with Minnesota Duluth on Saturday and Sunday. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. on both days up in Duluth.
