Softball's Last Regular Season Road Games Moved up a Day

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University softball team will play their final regular season roads games of the year tomorrow at St. Cloud State University. The Wolves and Huskies will throw the first pitch of the Tuesday double header at 2 p.m. from the second game to follow immediately after. 

The Wolves are coming off a four win weekend against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Offensively the Wolves excelled compiling 23 team runs and 37 hits. Lindsey Hubler connected for her sixth home run of the season against the Golden Eagles, a blast to left field. Eryn Yancy led the team in average with a .412 mark and connected for two doubles in seven hits. Courtney Moore and Ashley Clapp recorded the team's first and second triples of the year, along with the first of their careers. Kami Smesmo recorded two wins on the year with 27 strikeouts. Smesmo also notched her third shutout of the season and first save. Missy Elkins threw potentially her strongest game of the season against the Beavers and nearly her first career shutout. Elkins struck out six in the two games and gave up two earned runs.  

About St. Cloud State

The Huskies are currently on a three game loss streak in Northern Sun play after games with U-Mary and Minot over the weekend. St. Cloud is 11-25-1 overall and 5-14-1 in NSIC play this season. Their five conference wins have come against Moorhead, Crookston, Bemidji and Mary. The Huskies have three batters above the .300 mark, led by Breana Conova at .352 on the year. Tricia DeBoer has a team high 41 hits. The SCSU pitching staff is led by Kelly Franks with a 3.42 ERA and 105 strikeouts on the year.

Last Season 

The two teams split from Swisher field in Aberdeen a season ago. The Wolves took the 3-1 win, while the Huskies topped NSU 3-0. Macey Engel homered in the win for the Wolves while Kelsey Gale notched a double. Kami Smesmo threw her tenth win of the season, striking out four in the process.
