Photo GalleryThe Eighth-ranked Minnesota State offense proved to be too powerful for the Northern State baseball team Saturday as the Wolves dropped the afternoon doubleheader to the Mavericks, losing game one 18-5 and game two 13-2 in seven innings.
Nate Russell had a two RBI single to right center in the second inning of game one and
Brandon Ruud had an RBI single in the sixth inning to accumulate all the scoring for NSU (19-14, 12-10 NSIC) in the first game.
In game two, the Wolves got out to a 2-1 lead after a
Robbie Rocamora sacrifice fly in the first inning and a
Buddy Traxler single in the second. However, MSU's (34-7, 22-4 NSIC) offense came to life from there on and scored the next 12 runs of the game.
Alex Cornwell,
Eric O' Bryan and Traxler all had a pair of hits each on the day for Northern. Cornwell also scored two runs in the sweep as well. In all, the Mavericks collected 19 hits in game one and 16 hits in game two.
NSU returns to action Wednesday as the Wolves host Winona State Wednesday in a midweek doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. from Fossum Field.
