The Northern State baseball team ran its streak 10 consecutive games now with a victory as the Wolves swept Minot State Tuesday in doubleheader action at Fossum Field. The Wolves won a sloppy game one 7-5 and dominated the second game 8-1.

Minot State opened game one with two unearned runs in the second inning to take an early 2-0. Northern (19-10, 12-6 NSIC) responded with five runs of its own in the bottom of the inning, thanks in large part to some Minot fielding blunders. Nate Russell, Clayton Nutting and Eric O' Bryan all had RBIs in the inning. The Beavers would respond on their end in the third inning with three more runs to tie the game at 5-5. Two of the three runs in the inning were unearned.

NSU, however, would tighten up its defense and pitching down the stretch of the first game however and took control. Buddy Traxler delivered the game-winning RBI in the fourth as he brought in Riley Shintaffer with single through the right side. Trevor Sporrer would add an insurance run in the fifth as he singled to score Matt Stubbs.

Robbie Rocamora, Shintaffer and Traxler all had two hits in the win. Colton Boucher got the victory for Northern and improved his record to 5-2 on the season. Boucher has now won four consecutive starts for the Wolves. Boucher went the distance and allowed just one earned run on seven hits against the Beavers while striking out six and walking one batter.

Game two went much smoother for Northern. After Minot got its lone run in the first inning, the Wolves responded with the next eight runs of the game including three in the bottom of the first. NSU added runs in the third, fourth and sixth and a Sporrer two-run single in the fifth led to the victory. Both Sporrer and Rocamora had two RBI in the win. Rocamora went 3-for-5 with a run in the win while Clayton Nutting, O'Bryan and Stubbs all had two hits in the game as Northern collected 12 hits overall.

Cody Johns was masterful on the hill for the Wolves as he pitched his second complete game of the season and improved to 3-2 on the year. Johns allowed just three hits and no earned runs in the win while recording seven strikeouts.

NSU returns to action for a four-game series this weekend as No. 3 Minnesota State comes to Fossum Field on Friday and Saturday. Game one both days will begin at 1 p.m.
