The Northern State baseball team opens its 2014 season Wednesday, weather permitting, in a nine inning game at Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan. The Wolves were scheduled to play a doubleheader Tuesday against Hastings College but the games were cancelled due to field conditions in Hastings, Neb.
Northern is led by fourth-year Head Coach
Dean Berry. The Wolves were selected to finish 12 in the NSIC preseason coaches' poll last month. First baseman/DHÂ
Robbie Rocamora and pitcherÂ
Adam Thompson were selected as Players to Watch in the NSIC for Northern. Rocamora was a Second Team All-NSIC selection a year ago after hitting .395 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs. Rocamora scored 35 runs and compiled an on-base percentage of .441 and a slugging percentage of .736. Thompson led Northern with four saves last season. He appeared in 13 games and recorded an era of 4.41.
Fort Hays has already played 11 games this season and are 3-8 on the year. NSU is scheduled to play Bethany College Thursday in a nine inning game in Lindsborg, Kan., as well. The Swedes are 8-10 on the year already.
