The Northern State baseball team dropped the first two games of its four-game series with Wayne State Saturday in Wayne, Neb., the Wolves lost game one 13-6 and fell in game two 14-3 in seven innings. NSU drops to 7-9 on the season overall and 1-5 in NSIC play.

The Wolves got off to a hot start in game one as they put the first four runs of the game on the board. NSU got a three-run inning in the first as Derek Tymesen two-run single to right center brought in Matt Stubbs and Clayton Nutting. Trevor Sporrer had an RBI single of his own that scored Rocamora. Buddy Traxler scored on a wild pitch in the second inning and Northern had an early 4-0 lead.

The Wayne (11-7, 4-0 NSIC) offense exploded in the bottom of the second to score seven runs and also added two more in the third and had a four-run fifth inning. Stubbs connected for a two-run home run in the seventh with two outs to make the 13-6 final score. The homer was Stubbs' first of the season.

Kris Keating got the start on the mound and the loss for the Wolves. Keating pitched just two innings and allowed his first earned runs of the season in the loss.

In game two, the Wildcat bats exploded to score 12 runs in the first four innings of the contest. Northern's only runs came in the seventh inning but the three runs scored were not enough to end the game early in seven innings.

Danny Fischer, Eric O' Bryan and Nate Russell all got RBI hits in the inning for the Wolves. Russell's hit was a double to right center field. Fischer was the only Northern player with multiple hits in the game as he went 3-for-4 at the dish. John Eckstein was saddled with his first loss of the season in the game for NSU.

The Wolves and Wildcats finish their series with a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00.
