The Northern State baseball squad hits the road again for a four-game series with the Wildcats of Wayne State. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday. The first game on both days will begin at noon with game two starting at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The Wildcats head into the weekend with a 9-7 record overall and are 2-0 in NSIC play. The Wildcats swept Minnesota Duluth last weekend winning 2-0 and 5-3. The second doubleheader of that series was cancelled however.
Northern is coming off a 1-3 weekend at Augustana last week after splitting the first day with the Vikings. The win was NSU's first over Augustana since 2005, snapping a 26-game winning streak by the Vikings in the series.
John Eckstein picked up the win in the contest for the Wolves.
Wayne State swept Northern last season in four games down in Nebraska. The Wolves are looking for their first win over the Wildcats since 2011.
Northern is led by
Derek Tymesen's .407 batting average. Tymesen is third on the team with seven RBI on the season.
Matt Stubbs is second on the team hitting .347 this season and is one of two players (
Eric O' Bryan) to have started all 14 games this season. Stubbs is also the team leader in runs scored with 14.
Riley Shintaffer leads the Wolves on the year with nine RBI,
Robert Fahlin has eight.
