Softball Heads to Topeka for Non-Conference Match-Up

Aberdeen, S.D. - After going 4-4 from Winter Haven the Northern State University softball team will begin play again this week as they travel south. The Wolves will match-up with the Ichabods of Washburn University for a Wednesday double header from Topeka. Game times have been set for 2 and 4 p.m. between the two teams. 

The Wolves defeated Ohio Dominican, Lees-McRae, and Adelphi University while falling to Hillsdale, LIU Post and University of Indiana. Junior Kami Smesmo left the week with a 3-1 record and an ERA of 1.75. The NSU pitching staff struck out 27 batters in eight games. Eryn Yancy leads the Northern offense with a .381 batting average, while Macey Engel connected for her first homerun of the season, a game winner against Adelphi, and four doubles in her time on the field.

The Ichabods (11-5, 7-3 MIAA)  were 4-2 last week sweeping Texas A&M International before splitting MIAA doubleheader against No. 13-ranked Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney. The Wolves and the Ichabods have never faced off in the history of the two programs. 

The Wolves will then continue the road trip to the Missouri Western Tournament with match-ups against Central Missouri, Northwest Missouri State, Emporia, Missouri Western, Pitt State and Washburn.
