Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University women's basketball returns home this weekend for a four game home stand at Wachs Arena. NSU will being the weekend against the Warriors of Winona State University Friday night with a 6 p.m. tip-off. The Wolves will then be back in action Saturday with game time set for 5 p.m. against the Peacocks of Upper Iowa.
The Wolves are coming off a split weekend on the road against St. Cloud State University and Minnesota Duluth, with the loss coming against the Huskies. Senior
Alison Kusler scored 24 points each night in the match-ups, scoring a season high five three pointers against SCSU. The Wolves were able to bounce back in night to for an astounding win over the Bulldogs. For the second week in a row the Wolves have been named to the WBCA top 25 poll in the the 23rd spot. NSU now eturns home for two weekends of NSIC play beginning with Winona State University and Upper Iowa University. The Warriors and Peacocks sit sixth and seventh respectively in the NSIC south division.
Winona State
The Warriors have replaced three full time starters from a year ago this season. In 2012-13 Winona State compiled a 20 win season for the fourth time in six years. NSU has lost seven of their last nine games since the holiday break.
Last Match-Up
A season ago the Warriors topped the Wolves 49-44. NSU marked only one player in double-digit points in the match-up. Although statistically Northern State did not play horribly, Winona was able to edge out the victory in the one time meeting of the year.
Upper Iowa
The 2013-14 squad returns a very key starter in Whitney Kieffer who was named an All-NSIC performer a season ago. Although they suffer they loss of two seniors, NSIC freshman of the year Carly Pagel will be back in action for the Peacocks. Much like the WSU, UIU has lost seven of their last eight games since the holiday break.
Last Match-up
The Wolves edged the Peacocks 60-46 in 2012-13 as they shot 45.1 percent from the floor and held Upper Iowa to a team field goal percentage of 28.1. Kieffer led the Peacocks with 19 pts. while then sophomores Stotesbery and Mutchler each tabbed 11 for the Wolves.
