The Northern State volleyball team got back to its winning ways Saturday afternoon, snapping a two-game losing-streak. The Wolves picked up a 3-1 victory over Sioux Falls on the road, improving their record to 10-2 and 3-2 in the NSIC. Set scores went 25-20, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-22.
Kelsey Chambers and
Jussy Tuscherer each had 13 kills to lead the Wolves offense. It was a huge match for Tuscherer as she set new career-highs in kills, attack percentage (.458) and aces (3). Her 12 digs were also a new career-best for Tuscherer as she picks up her first double-double of the season. Tuscherer reaches double-digit digs for the second consecutive match. Her four block assists set a season-high mark as well.
Macey Finizio was the other Northern player with double-digit kills as she recorded 11 in the win. Cari McGarive added eight kills, five blocks and had a career-high five service aces against the Cougars. NSU's 12 aces as a team sets a new season-best for the Wolves and is the most in a match for Northern since 2010 (13).
Tori Biach again had a solid defensive match at the net for the Wolves as she recorded a career-best five block assists. Northern had 20 total block assists as a team in the win Saturday.
Drew Smith had 40 assists from her setter position to go along with a kill, a block, four digs and two aces in the match.
Sami Nygaard led the Wolves back row with 16 digs. Nygaard also picked-up four assists in the match.
Northern returns home next weekend for a pair of matches over Gypsy Days weekend. Augustana comes to Wachs Arena for a 7 p.m. match Friday. Saturday, the Wolves host Wayne State at 7 p.m. as well.
