BISMARCK, N.D. - The Northern State Wolves used a 9-run third inning to bust open what had previously been a 1-1 tie en-route to a 12-2 win to open a two-game road trip at U-Mary on Wednesday.  The Marauders bounced back to take Game 2 by a 4-2 count, giving both teams a split on the day.

NSU moves to 14-24 overall and 7-17 in Northern Sun play.  The Marauders are now 16-18 on the season and 7-12 in the loop.

The Wolves erupted in Game 1 to score nine runs in the top of the third inning to break open a 10-1 lead on the host Marauders.  All nine runs were unearned, thanks to two U-Mary errors and six NSU hits.  Casey Bohms, getting the start in left field for the Wolves, led off the inning with a double and later plated two runs with a two-out single.  Bohms scored twice in the inning, and junior Robbie Rocamora tallied a bases-clearing double to cap the barrage.

NSU tacked on single runs in the fourth and seventh innings.  Derek Tymesen accounted for the fourth inning run with a lead-off solo shot to left field.  Bohms, who went 3-for-4 from the plate, scored his fourth and final run of the game in the seventh.

Senior Clint Manzo went six innings to get the win for the Wolves, striking out four and allowing just two runs in his fourth win of the season.

The Wolves rode another strong start from senior Nathan Nietfeld in Game 2.  Nietfeld went seven strong and left with a 2-1 lead but ended with a no-decision after the Marauders rallied with a 3-run eighth inning to take a 4-2 lead.  That would be where the final ended.

Northern State rapped out ten hits and drew three walks in the nightcap, but stranded ten runners on base.  Bohms continued his banner day with a pair of hits, as did Tymesen.  Cameron Lehner went 3-for-3 with a run scored, coming home on a Rocamora triple.

The Wolves return home to Fossum Field for the first time this season, hosting Minnesota-Duluth on Friday and Saturday.  First pitch is set for noon on Friday with a 1:30 p.m. start on Saturday.
